Sports business Cultfit’s direct to customer sports apparel and equipment business Cultsport plans to expand swiftly across India to penetrate new areas and take advantage of what it sees as a gap in the market for sports retail. The business plans to open a new exclusive brand outlet in the country every month.
“We have over 600 fitness centres across India and eventually three years from now we can have a similar number of offline stores because there isn’t that much penetration of sports retail shops in the country currently,” Cultsport’s business head Shamik Sharma told ET Retail.
Cultsport currently contributes close to a third of Cultfit’s overall revenue total and the business expects this to increase to 50% in the coming few years, fuelled by brick-and-mortar expansion. “It’s our fastest growing business unit,” said Sharma about Cultsport. “I think Curefit in the long run will be known for its Cult brand of both fitness centres as well as products.”
Cultsport recently opened its first brick-and-mortar store in Bengaluru which retails clothing, fitness-focused watches, accessories, and sports equipment. The retail brand launched in 2019 as an online business then expanded offline by retailing in numerous multi-brand outlets and later its own stores.
