Adani Ports MD: Karan Adani is the MD of Adani Ports, former Nissan acting CEO
Mumbai: Adani is dividing the post of Ports and SEZ chairman. Managing Director, Gautam Adani The role of chairman will remain intact and his son Karan (36) will become the MD of the country’s largest port operator.

The restructuring is aimed at keeping family members away from direct business roles such as CEO, one of the sources said. Gautam’s childhood friend and confidant Malay Mahadevia has resigned from the board of Adani Ports, citing “pre-occupations and other business commitments within the Adani Group”.
The restructuring of leadership roles will come into effect from Thursday. Gupta, who had a controversial tenure at Nissan where he clashed with CEO Makoto Uchida, has been appointed as CEO and whole-time director of the Ahmedabad-based company for three years. Karan, who has been CEO since 2016, said Gupta’s appointment is a strategic move to strengthen the company’s leadership position in the ports sector.
Adani Ports also plans to raise Rs 5,000 crore through a public issue of non-convertible debentures (NCDs) to meet its requirements. The face value of each NCD will be Rs 1,000. During the first nine months of FY2024, Adani Ports handled more than 300 MMT of cargo, an increase of 23% compared to the same period in FY2023.
