 Located on the northern part of Borneo Island in
Malaysia, Sabah is one of those destinations you can visit time
and time again and yet still experience a totally unique and
memorable holiday experience.

Sabah has something for everyone and in 2023
managed to significantly surpass its target of 2.2 million visitor
arrivals for the year by welcoming 2.6 million people.

For 2024,
Sabah has set itself an even stronger target of 2.8 million
arrivals, and the State is already on the right track.

Julinus Jeffery Jimit

Not only is Sabah home to the world-famous
destination of Kota Kinabalu, but in late January, Tawau Airport (TWU) welcomed its
very first international flight – a charter flight from
Nanjing (NKH), China.

Firefly is operating the thrice weekly
charter flights every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, bringing in
up to 540 passengers per week until end of March.

Asia sat down with Julinus Jeffery Jimit, Sabah Tourism Board’s
CEO, at the Routes Asia 2024 airline route development and airport
services conference and exhibition in Langkawi, Malaysia.

In this interview, filmed on 27 February 2024,
Steven asks about Sabah’s post-COVID recovery, which markets are
recovering the fastest and which STB is would like to target the
most.

We discuss visitor arrivals, how traveller
demographics and needs are changing, hotels in the State and what
tourism development plans Sabah has.

Julinus shares his thoughts on airports in Sabah,
which airline routes he would most like to see take off and much,
