Dhruva Space to set up large scale spacecraft assembly, integration & testing facility in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Spacetech startup Dhruva Space is setting up a design, engineering, assembly, integration and testing facility for large-scale manufacturing of its space products at Shamshabad.
The facility, which will come up on a 6.5-acre parcel of land at the TSIIC Hardware Park at Shamshabad, will manufacture satellite platforms and subsystems, satellite orbital deployers, ground station equipment, among others, Dhruva Space said on Saturday.
While the Hyderabad-based startup will be setting up a 2.8 lakh sq ft facility over a five-year period, in the first phase it plans to put up a 1.5 lakh sq ft facility.
The first phase, which will include a 20,000 sq ft solar array assembly line, is expected to be completed in the next 18-24 months, the company said.
The startup said the facility is aimed at positioning Dhruva Space as a hot-bed for space technology in India by creating a world-class campus that represents India’s growing stature globally.
Dhruva Space founder CEO Sanjay Nekkanti said: “The future of space is right here, right now! This site sends a message to the world that India is going to compete on the world stage for space business.
“Building the design, engineering, assembly, integration & testing facility in the Shamshabad area is a critical part of our strategy for Dhruva Space’s growth and resilience and will be integral in helping Dhruva Space realise its full potential as a full-stack space company,” Nekkanti said.
While Dhruva Space did not divulge any employment figures for the upcoming facility, it said the facility will create hundreds of jobs.
Dhruva Space co-founder and chief technology officer Abhay Egoor said “Combined with acilities such as T-Works and the various small and medium enterprises across Balanagar, Cherlapally and various industrial parks within the city to fabricate and test components, the spacecraft manufacturing facility will cater to the growing small satellite market, and Dhruva Space’s indigenous development of space-grade solar arrays.”
Pointing out that all its three space missions till date were fully realized within the Hyderabad ecosystem before being launched into space, Egoor said Dhruva Space is already in talks with large global OEM players who are looking to leverage this infrastructure to act as a capacity doubler to cater to their global supply demands.
The startup had conducted a private soft reveal of the site plans earlier this week, to mark World Space Week, in the presence of a 54-member delegation from 27 French companies, including Dhruva Space’s partners Kinéis and Comat, in Hyderabad.
Cédric Post, deputy director, international, European and commercial affairs, GIFAS, who was present at the event, expressed hope that Dhruva’s upcoming assembly, integration and testing facility would pave the way to a long-term cooperation with French equipment manufacturers.
