(21/11/23) IHG has signed an agreement with the Taipei-based real estate broker Zhancheng
Tourism Development, a subsidiary of Sinyi Realty, for a new-build
InterContinental hotel in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
The 450-room InterContinental Sabah Kota Kinabalu
Resort, scheduled to open in 2027, is located 25 minutes from Kota
Kinabalu International Airport.
Facilities at the beachfront resort will
include four restaurants and bars, 2,400 square metres of meeting
and event space, a fitness centre, spa, kids club,
three outdoor pools and an Club InterContinental
Lounge.
The resort will also offer a wide range of activities
such as island hopping, snorkelling, forest walks and
trails, mangrove kayaking expeditions, as well as firefly and proboscis
monkey cruises.

Kinabalu Resort project in Sabah in partnership with IHG, Mengalum
Island, which has been engaged in ecological restoration work for
two years, will also be built into the ‘world’s first zero-carbon

IHG has seven hotels across three brands –
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts
and Holiday Inn Express – in Malaysia.
The company is set to rejuvenate and
triple its estate to approximately 18 properties across six brands within the
next five years as it introduces Regent Hotels & Resorts, Kimpton
Hotels & Restaurants, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts and Hotel
Indigo to the market.
