After the performance of former Australian Test opener David Warner, a big question has arisen in front of the Kangaroo team as to who will open in Test cricket in his place. Australia team is playing a two-match Test series against West Indies from January 17.
Before this, the team has many options for Warner, and their combination is under consideration. The names in the race include Marcus Harris, Cameron Green, Matt Renshaw, Cameron Bancroft, Steve Smith and Travis Heads.
steve smith
Australia’s star player Steve Smith took part in the test for interest. In his statement given before the start of the Test against Pakistan in Sydney, Smith had expressed his desire to take part in the Major Test. Team captain Pat Cummins and Smith have been removed from the middle position. Smith never opened in Tests. He has been batting at number four for the last 10 years (2013). Earlier, he was batting in lover middle order and lover order only.
cameron green
There are many options as opener batsman in the team. Install Cameron Green’s name is leading the way. Former team captain Steve Waugh said, Green can be the best replacement for Warner in the Test. He further said, Green is still at number 6 and meanwhile a new ball game comes at number 6. So he is a placement associate like Shane Watson. So I want to open them and see. Observation: Mitchell Marsh is batting at number 6 so Green should open. Green has started only one T20 match so far.
travis heads
Australia’s Travis Heads goes in for his attacking batting. Hades’ attacking approach is what makes him Warner’s best asset. Looking at the way he batted in the Madrasa World Cup, he is being considered as an opener in Tests. Hades has scored 41 runs in two Test matches so far. There are four matches open in 12 and T-20.
marcus harris
The name of Marcus Harris is also among the strong contenders to replace Warner in the Test. Harris has played 14 Tests for Australia, in which he has opened 12 matches. Harris is out of the team since 2021. During this period, he has performed well as an opener in Sheffield Shield.
cameron bancroft
Cameron Bancroft did not play any Test after the ball tampering case. He played the first 10 tests of the ball tampering case and opened in all of them. Bancroft has scored the most runs in Australia’s domestic first class cricket tournament Sheffield Shield in 2023/24.
matt renshaw
Renshaw is being seen as an alternative to Warner. Renshaw has played 14 Test matches for Australia, including 9 appearances. During this period one century and 2 wickets were taken. Renshaw has performed well in the Sheffield Shield this year.
