New Delhi: The government said on Sunday GST officer 29,273 have been detected fake firms involved in fraud input tax credit (ITC) claimed Rs 44,015 crore in the eight months till December 2023 during the drive against fake registrations, which helped save revenue of Rs 4,646 crore.
4,153 fake firms were detected in October-December, involving suspected ITC evasion of about Rs 12,036 crore. Central GST officials detected 2,358 of these fake firms.
Maharashtra tops the list with detection of 926 fake firms, followed by Rajasthan (507), Delhi (483) and Haryana (424). Revenue of Rs 1,317 crore was secured from investigations during the December quarter.
