The pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Stars reached the tournament of Malaysia Open 2024 tournament in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
The Indian pair, ranked second in the badminton rankings, defeated China’s Ren Gama Yu and He Ji Ting in straight games in the quarter-finals of the doubles event.
Whereas in the quarter-finals of women’s doubles, the Indian pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto were eliminated from the tournament.
Indian Major General won the match in 35 minutes
The Indian pair, which won the gold medal in the Asian Games last year, performed brilliantly during the match and defeated the pair of Pravesh Yu and Ting, ranked 32nd in the world ranking, 21-11, 21-8 with a lead of 35 minutes.
The second seeded Indian pair will face the winners of Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae and Malaysian pair of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik to reach the final.
Ashwini-Tanisha pair lost
The pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto lost in straight games to Japan’s Rin Iwanaga and Ki Nakanishi in the women’s doubles quarterfinals.
World number 24 Indian pair of Iwanaga and Nakanishi lost 15-21, 13-21 in the match that lasted 39 minutes.
The Japanese pair defeated Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto in straight games.
No Indian has won the Malaysia Open yet
