The pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Stars reached the final of the Malaysia Open 2024 badminton tournament in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. This is the first time in tournament history that an Indian pair has reached the final.

In the doubles event, the Indian pair, ranked second in badminton, knocked out world champion Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae from the batting title stock in straight games. Before this, no Indian had reached the final in any category.

The Indian pair won the match 21-18, 22-20. There was competition in this game which lasted for 21 minutes.

Satwik-Chirag won the match 21-18, 22-20.

No Indian has won the Malaysia Open yet
The Malaysia Open badminton tournament has been played since 1937. Shuttlers will get qualifying ranking points for Malaysia Open 2024, Paris Olympics. It started on May 1 last year. No Indian has won the title in Malaysia Open so far.

Ashwini-Tanisha pair out
Earlier, on Friday, the pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crusto had to face defeat in straight games to Japan’s Rin Iwanaga and Ki Nakanishi in the women’s doubles quarterfinals.

World number 24 Indian pair of Iwanaga and Nakanishi lost 15-21, 13-21 in a match that lasted 39 minutes.
