Adani Group will provide 350 sqft houses with independent kitchen and toilet to Dharavi residents after redevelopment
Dharavi Redevelopment Project Private Limited (DRPPL), a collaboration between Adani Group And this Maharashtra Governmentannounced that eligible residential house Flats with independent kitchen and toilet with minimum area of 350 square feet will be available in Dharavi.
As stated by the developer, this compensatory area is approximately 17% larger, which is the highest among slum redevelopment projects in Mumbai.
In November 2022, real estate development company Adani Properties under Gautam Adani-led Adani Group secured the rights to redevelop the 600-acre Dharavi slum in Mumbai.
With the Adani Group entity holding 80% stake in DRPPL, the Maharashtra government holds the remaining 20%.
Earlier, 269 sq ft houses were allotted to residents of informal settlements in Maharashtra. However, from 2018, in compliance with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for housing the urban poor, the state government has started providing houses ranging from 315 sq ft to 322 sq ft. In a report by ET.
In eligible residential houses existing before January 1, 2000, each flat will have separate kitchen and built-in independent toilet. Priority will be given to making the houses well lit, ventilated, clean and safe.
Ineligible residential tenants in Dharavi will be accommodated under the proposed affordable rental housing policy, following the defined norms of the Government of Maharashtra. Adani Group has indicated that similar development plans are being considered for various Navi Dharavis, addressing the substantial demand for housing units.
