England’s star tennis player Andy Murray has been eliminated from the Australian Open 2024 after losing in the first round. He was defeated by 24-year-old Argentine tennis player Tomas Martin in straight sets in the first round of the tournament on Monday. World number three Daniil Medvedev is the second player to reach the round.

Martin defeated three-time Grand Slam champion Murray 6–4, 6–2, 6–2 at the Show Court Arena to reach the second round of his first Grand Slam of the season. In the next round, Martin will face Gael Monfils of France. Monfils defeated Yannick Hanfman 6–4, 6–3, 7–5 in the first round.

Medvedev defeated Atamane
Russia’s Medvedev, seeded third in the mess class, made it to the second round after his rival France’s Terence Atmane withdrew mid-match. Medvedev was leading 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, 1-0 when the 22-year-old Atamane decided to patriotise. Medvedev will face Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland in the next round.

Tsitsipas beats Bergs
Stefanos Tsitsipas, who lost to Novak Djokovic in the final last year, defeated Zizau Bergs of Belgium 5-7, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3. Australian Open 2014 champion and three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka lost in the first round. He was defeated by Adrian Mannarino 6–4, 3–6, 5–7, 6–3, 6–0.
