Updated forms have been introduced for both Aadhaar enrollment and update. Separate forms have been provided for residents and non-residents (NRIs) seeking Aadhaar enrollment or update. The new rules provide two convenient ways to update information Central Identity Data Repository (CIDR): Individuals can either visit the enrollment center or use the official website/mobile application. In contrast, the previous 2016 rules limited online updates to addressing changes only. Any further update in Aadhaar details will require visiting the enrollment centre.
Notably, the new rules do not specify any limits, indicating a possible future scenario where Aadhaar card holders may also be able to update additional details like mobile number online, the ET report said.

Form for Aadhaar Enrollment
The existing forms for Aadhaar enrollment and updating Aadhaar details have been replaced with new versions. The newly introduced Form 1 is designated for use by individuals aged 18 years and above, both residents and non-residents (provided they have proof of address in India), for Aadhaar enrolment. Interestingly, individuals falling in this category can also use the same Form 1 to update their Aadhaar details.
Declaration and documentary proof of age
As per the new form, if the age of a person is declared or estimated (without documentary proof of date of birth), only the declared/estimated year of birth will be displayed on the Aadhaar card. To print complete date of birth on Aadhaar card, it is necessary to provide documentary proof.
Base Enrollment and updating can be done through document verification or confirmation by the Head of Family (HoF). In the latter case, the HoF will have to submit their Aadhaar details and sign Form 1. Additionally, NRIs are required to provide an email ID in Aadhaar. If an NRI provides a non-Indian mobile number, no SMS or text message will be sent to that number, as stated in the guidelines for Form 1. Notably, for NRIs, a valid Indian passport serves as the only acceptable proof of identity (POI).

These new forms have replaced the old forms for Aadhaar enrollment and updates:
Form 1: For residents and non-residents (with proof of address in India) aged 18 years and above. This form is used for both enrollment and updating details.
Form 2: Especially for NRIs with address proof outside India.
Form 3: Designed for enrollment of children aged 5 to 18 years (resident or NRI with Indian address).
Form 4: For NRI children with addresses outside India.
Form 5: For resident or NRI children (with Indian address) below 5 years of age.
Form 6: For NRI children below 5 years of age (with address outside India).
Form 7: Used by resident foreign nationals aged 18 years and above for Aadhaar enrollment or update, requiring details of foreign passport. oci cardValid long term visa, Indian visa and a mandatory email ID.
Form 8: For resident foreign nationals under the age of 18.
Form 9: The facility to cancel Aadhaar number on attaining the age of 18 years was started.
Updating documents or information
According to the notification, Aadhaar holders can now update their documents or information within ten years from the date of generation of Aadhaar. This can be done online through the UIDAI website or mobile app or by submitting a form at the enrollment centre. This is different from the 2016 rules, which did not allow online updates.
UIDAI released these changes on January 16, 2023, offering a more accessible and comprehensive approach to Aadhaar enrollment and updates.
