India’s star tennis player Rohan Bopanna has reached the final of the men’s doubles event of Australian Open 2024. Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden defeated Czech Republic’s Tomas Machak and China’s Zhezhen Zhang in the Grand Slam on Thursday. Bopanna is in the Australian Open final field for the first time.

On the other hand, the unseeded pair of Machak and Zhang defeated the pair 6-3, 3-6, 7-6. At the age of 43, Bopanna is the world No. 1 player when the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings are updated. With this, he will be the oldest player in the world to achieve number-1 rank.

Bopanna has one Grand Slam title
Bopanna won the mixed doubles title at the French Open in 2017 with Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski. Bopanna has been runner-up twice in doubles at the US Open in 2010 with Pakistan’s Eham-ul-Haq Quresh and in 2023 with Ebden.

Last year Bopanna was the oldest player to reach the Grand Slam final.
Only last year, Bopanna became the oldest draw to qualify for a Grand Slam final in the Open Era. He and his partner Ebden lost in the final of the US Open 2023. Bopanna made his debut 20 years ago.

Bopanna is also the oldest player to win a doubles title in a Masters 1000 event. He achieved this feat last year at the age of 43 along with Ebden in the Indian Wells tournament.
