Inaugurating the PNG service, PNGRB Chairman Anil Kumar Jain appealed to the villagers to cooperate in laying the pipeline so that houses can get connections soon. The objective of this national campaign, which will run till March 31, is to make villages and towns partners in the development of the country by adopting clean energy. He said the initiative to promote biogas and agro-waste-to-gas projects will accelerate clean fuel supply in rural areas, thereby creating a circular economy in villages.
IGL Managing director Kamal Kishore Chatiwal said the company has connected 1.7 million households in the capital and in an encouraging sign, 450 of the 2,000 potential households in Dhansa village have already registered for PNG connections. Company Director (Commercial), Pawan KumarSaid that IGL is focused on connecting villages and towns in PNG across all its license areas.
IGL had in October last year started the work of laying a 1.2 km long gas pipeline to connect Dhansa village with the company’s main distribution network at the Air Force Station at Kazipur on Najafgarh-Dhansa road. Since then, a 16 km long pipeline has been laid within the village to pipe gas to homes.
It is believed that Dhansa is an ancient village, dating back to the Mahabharata period, where Ghatotkacha, son of Bhima, dug a pond – Ghodai – in the village which still exists next to the Dada Buddha temple.
