Reliance could win only 2 out of 9 matches in the World Cup. India had defeated Sri Lanka by a huge margin of 302 runs.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken leave from the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC). The council said in a release issued on Sunday that the government’s passing Andrea is no longer on the board. In such a situation, the electronic influence of the board has been restored.
ICC had separated the board after the entry of the government during the World Cup in November-2023. Due to the disappointing performance in the then held World Cup, the Sports Ministry there launched the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) on 6 November.
The ICC had told the SLC that there should be no government interference in the work of any ICC member, but for the last few days no work has been received from the Sri Lanka Board. full news
Hosting of Under-19 World Cup
The reason for this decline was Sri Lanka’s hosting of the Under-19 World Cup at the Ganwani ground. This tournament is taking place in South Africa. The Lankan team has won both its matches and is playing the third league match against Australia.
The board was inaugurated by the Sports Ministry
After the crushing 302-run defeat to India in the World Cup, the Sri Lankan Sports Ministry had dismissed the entire Sri Lankan Cricket Board. “The country’s 1996 World Cup winner Captain Arjuna Ranatunga has been appointed chairman of the new interim board,” Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe’s office said in a statement.
Ranasinghe had called the Sri Lanka Cricket Board treacherous and cheap and had demanded a position from the board member. After which Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Mohan de Silva resigned from his post on 4 November.
Against India, Sri Lankan team was all out after scoring 55 runs.
Sri Lanka won only 2 matches in the World Cup
After finishing runner up in the Asia Cup, the greats of the Sri Lankan team entered the World Cup, but their performance was very disappointing. The team won 2 out of 9 matches. The team could only defeat England and Netherlands. It also faced defeats against other Asian teams like Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Sri Lanka stood at number 9 in the points table of 10 lotteries.
