New Delhi: Mukesh Ambani is ranked as top indian And second globally In Brand Guardianship Index 2024 compiled by brand finance, Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Ltd, overtook prominent personalities like Microsoft’s Satya Nadella and Google’s Sundar Pichai to grab the second position globally, while Tencent’s Huateng Ma claimed the number one spot.
The Brand Guardianship Index recognizes CEOs who effectively create business value while considering the interests of all stakeholders, including employees, investors and society at large. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran moved from eighth to fifth place in the 2023 rankings. Mahindra & Mahindra’s Anish Shah secured the sixth position, followed by Infosys’ Salil Parekh at 16th.
In this year’s rankings too, Ambani retained his second position globally and emerged as the top-ranked CEO in the ‘diversified’ group category. Ambani’s ranking surpasses influential figures like Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, Google’s Sundar Pichai, Apple’s Tim Cook and Tesla’s Elon Musk. Brand Finance gave Ambani a BGI score of 80.3, slightly lower than Huateng Ma’s score of 81.6.
The Brand Finance survey evaluates CEOs based on a balanced scorecard that measures their ability to act as stewards of their company’s brand and long-term value. The analysis revealed that environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors have become the primary drivers in determining CEO reputation. Being recognized as a sustainability champion made a 14% difference in reputation scores, surpassing factors such as perceived trustworthiness and a strong strategy and global recognition.
