Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Niranjan Hiranandani The promoter of Mumbai-based major real estate developer Hiranandani Group and his son Darshan Hiranandani will be questioned in a forex violation case on February 26, official sources said on Sunday.
Hiranandani has been asked to appear at the central agency’s office in Mumbai, but he can choose to submit his preliminary response through an authorized representative, he said.
Darshan Hiranandani has been living in Dubai for the last several years.
Around four premises of Hiranandani Group in and around Mumbai were searched by the ED last week under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
Apart from some offshore transactions, the agency is also said to be probing beneficiaries of a trust based in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) that are allegedly linked to it. Promoter of Hiranandani Group,
The group has said that it will cooperate with the ED in this FEMA investigation.
Official sources said the ED probe is not linked to another FEMA probe being conducted against TMC leader Mahua Moitra, who was expelled as Lok Sabha MP in December last year.
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had accused Moitra of asking questions in the Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the behest of Darshan Hiranandani in return for gifts.
Dubey had also accused Moitra of compromising national security for monetary gains.
Moitra has denied any wrongdoing and claimed that she was being targeted because she had raised questions on Adani Group deals.
