Opening Bell: Sensex, Nifty open flat in early trade

New Delhi: equity benchmark index Monday had a flat start in morning trade.

Earlier, the Nifty was trading at 22,222.50 at 8:03 am, indicating a modest opening from Friday’s close of 22,212.70 on the NSE Nifty 50.
BSE Sensex and Nifty50 declined in closing trade on Friday. While the Sensex closed 15.44 points or 0.02 per cent lower at 73,142.80, with 17 of its components in the red and 13 in the green, the Nifty 50 closed 4.75 points or 0.02 per cent lower.
The index opened on a positive note but later faced a decline due to profit-booking by investors. The index fluctuated between a high of 73,413.93 and a low of 73,022.
Meanwhile, the 50-share index hit a new all-time high of 22,297.50 in intra-day trade.
On the global front, Tokyo shares opened higher following gains on Wall Street and record-breaking performance of Japan’s Nikkei index.
The Nikkei 225 index rose 0.68 percent, or 265.38 points, to 39,364.06, while the broader Topix index rose 0.61 percent, or 16.24 points, to 2,676.95.
