The match between Sinner and Medvedev lasted 3 hours 44 minutes.

Australia Open has got a new champion. Italian player Jannik Sinner won the Grand Slam title for the first time by defeating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the Men’s Singles final.

The 22-year-old Sinner defeated Medvedev 3-6,3-6,6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in five sets. In 3 hours and 44 minutes, Sinner lost the first 2 sets, after which he made a spectacular comeback and won the Nicol match in three consecutive sets. Sinner becomes the first Italian player to win an Australian Open revival.

He was successful in taking 10-time Australian Open winner Novak Djokovic to the finals.

Sinner will play Grand Slam final for the first time and win
Sinner played the Grand Slam final for the first time. Earlier, Sinner had only reached the quarterfinals of the French Open in 2020, the finals of Wimbledon in 2023 and the quarterfinals of the US Open in 2022.

Sinner is the youngest player in the tournament since 2008
At 22 years and 165 days, Sinner is the youngest player to win a singles title at the Australian Open since 2008. In 2008, Djokovic won the title at the age of 20 years and 250 days.

Jannik Sinner, the third Italian to win a Grand Slam, has become the first Italian player to win the Australian Open as well as the third player to win a Grand Slam. Earlier in 1959 and 1960, Nicola Pietrangeli had won the Roland Garros title (French Open). At the same time, in the year 1976, Adriano Panatta also captured the Roland Garros Cup.

Daniil Medvedev reached the Australian Open final for the third time in his career. They could not win the title till now. In the year 2021, Medvedev played the final for the first time, where he was defeated by Novak Djokovic 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.

Rafael Nadal defeated Rafael Nadal in a 5-set thriller 2-6, 6-7(5-7), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 in the final of Australia Open 2022. In 2024, he faced defeat against Sinner.

Medvedev has only one Grand Slam title, he won the US Open in the year 2021.

Singles winners will get Rs 17.5 crore
The total cost of this year’s Australian Open is Rs 481.2 crore. There was a 13 percent hit in prize money this year compared to last year’s budget. The winner of men’s and women’s singles will get around Rs 17.50 crore. Whereas, the runner will take home Rs 9.5 crore.
