“Indian size of footwear will be launched soon to help distinguish Indian footwear around the globe and reduce dependence on foreign sizing trends,” said Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal at the fair, Asian News International reported.

The IIFF 2023 ran from July 26 to 29 at the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, World Footwear reported. The trade show’s seventh edition highlighted trends in the industry and was designed to link up manufacturers with wholesalers and retailers and was organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation. The trade show featured product categories including footwear, materials, chemicals, and machinery among others.

“India is the second largest exporter of leather garments, third largest exporter of saddlery and harness, and fourth largest exporter of leather goods in the world,” said Goyal at the event. Goyal also stressed the importance of the footwear and leather industry for generating employment in India and the sector currently employs around 4.5 million people of which around 40% are women.
