(29/10/23) Since Skyscanner was founded in 2001, the
Scotland-based metasearch engine and online travel agent has
become one of the most recognised names in the flight search and
pricing sector.
In 2016, Skyscanner was acquired by Ctrip, a
company which bought Trip.com the following year and rebranded
itself as Trip.com
at that time.
Michael Docherty, Commercial Director, Skyscanner
To learn more about Skyscanner, Steven Howard
interviewed Michael Docherty,
Skyscanner’s Commercial Director, at the Routes World 2023 airport
services and airline route development conference and exhibition in Istanbul, Türkiye
earlier this month.
In the interview, filmed on 16 October 2023,
Michael tells us why the company is exhibiting at Routes World and
what it expects to get from attending the event.
We discuss how the company is trying to monetise
the enormous amounts of data it processes every day, what data is
available, what roles machine learning and AI play in analysing
said data, and how
airlines and airports could use the data to potentially improve
and even launch
services.
Michael shares his thoughts on post-Covid
recovery, which markets are recovering fastest, how many people
actually book flights on Skyscanner rather than just search routes
and prices, what trends Skyscanner is currently seeing, and what
new concepts the company is working on. All that and much, much
more in the HD video and podcast below.
