TCS gives final warning to employees: Resume work from office or be prepared to face consequences

While TCS has shown patience, the company strongly believes that employees need to come back to the office. Final communication regarding this matter has been sent to the employees and those who do not comply with it will have to face consequences. Subramaniam expressed concerns about working from home and highlighted the insecurities it poses for both employees and employers. He noted the increased risk of cyber attacks and the lack of controls and security measures that can be implemented at home.
The decision to bring employees back to the office is an attempt by TCS to revive its pre-pandemic work culture. The company plans to move away from the hybrid model it adopted during the COVID-19 outbreak, where employees worked from both home and office. TCS had earlier announced that once all employees return to the office, a quarter of them will work from home by 2025.

During the third fiscal quarter, Infosys, India’s second-largest IT company, reported a cybersecurity incident at one of its US units, causing several applications to become unavailable. HCLTech also faced a ransomware incident in December, although it had no impact on the company.
In the recent earnings announcement, TCS revealed that 65% of its workforce is coming to the office up to three days a week. Subramaniam stressed the need to restore the original work culture, citing the negative impact of remote work on employee interaction and organizational growth. He mentioned that during the pandemic, about 40,000 employees joined and left TCS online without any offline interaction, which is not conducive to the company’s success.
tcs It saw significant growth in its workforce with over 167,000 new hires between April 2020 and October 2023. However, in subsequent quarters, the company experienced negative employee growth as it aimed to control higher employee costs.

Subramaniam addressed the issues of understaffing and lack of trust in the IT industry, highlighting the importance of security and privacy. He said face-to-face interactions are essential to building a talented workforce and making leadership decisions. According to Subramaniam, remote working does not contribute to building a strong organizational culture.
TCS recorded a high attrition rate of 21.5% in January 2023, which declined to 13.3% in the December quarter. The company ended the third quarter with 603,305 employees, 5,680 fewer than the previous quarter. TCS aims to return to its normal operating mode by the end of the current financial year.
Bringing employees back to the office has become a challenge for the entire IT industry. TCS’s competitors also face similar problems in encouraging employees to return to the office. Most companies have implemented a roster system, whereby employees are required to work in the office for three days.
