Sportswear and sporting goods business Decathlon has opened its first large-scale store in the city of Chennai. The 13,000 square foot outlet is located in The Marina Mall in Egattur and retails clothing, footwear, and accessories for men, women, and children. 

“Decathlon is officially open at The Marina Mall,” announced the mall on Facebook on September 26. “Swing by and grab your sports gear now.”
 
The store is designed to offer an interactive experience for shoppers and features a 350 square foot digital play and experience area, India Retailing reported. The store caters to a wide range of sports including water sports, cycling, racket sports, walking, and target sports among others. 

“Hats off to the remarkable Decathlon Sports India team for the grand opening of their very first large-format store in Chennai at The Marina Mall,” wrote The Marina Mall’s head of leasing Mohmmed Moin on Linkedin. 

Decathlon opened its most recent large-format store in Bengaluru at the beginning of September. Its 15th store to date in the Bengaluru metro area, the outlet is located in the city’s Nexus Mall. 

Entrepreneur Michel Leclercq launched Decathlon in France in 1976. The business currently counts over 2,080 stores worldwide, spread across 56 countries and territories, according to its website. Decathlon has over 100 stores in India and first entered the country in 2009.
